Connie, I prefer the resolution brought forth by the commissioners currently regarding affordable housing. If our community does not take an aggressive stance on this issue, we will become an elitist enclave without the rich diversity that makes Bozeman so attractive. Reducing park spaces or other builder requirements towards this end is not an attractive solution in my opinion.

    Connie,
I believe the committee should review with lenders the basic percentages used in the existing proposal. My understanding is the guidelines of what is affordable is using no more than 30% of one's gross income for housing. I believe most any lender in town would use a larger percentage for anyone with decent credit and normal amounts of back end debt. If the percentage were increased to more realistic figure, it would change the number of units a developer would be able to produce without subsidizing the unit.
